The Cyclists Of Greene (COG) bike club, based in Jefferson, has announced the dates of its Full Moon Rides during the 2015 season. The first of them is this Saturday, April 4, with a departure at 7 pm from the Jefferson Depot on the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
The group generally rides eight miles on the trail in the twilight, stopping at Cooper, and waiting there for the full moon to begin rising. The ride back to Jefferson is normally in the dark. The rides are free, but helmets and bike lights are required. There are free refreshments at the depot after the rides.
Here are the rest of the dates, with departure times from the depot: Saturday, May 3, leaving depot at 7:15 pm; Sunday, May 31, leaving at 7:30 pm; Wednesday, July 1, leaving at 7:30 pm; Friday, July 31, leaving at 7:30 pm; Saturday, Aug. 29, leaving at 6:50 pm.; Sunday, Sept. 27, leaving at 5:50 pm; Tuesday, Oct. 27, leaving at 5:30 pm; and Sunday, Nov. 22, no ride but potluck supper precedes COG’s annual meeting at 6 pm.
